A field note is a reference page. It has a date at the top, a table where a table is the right form, and a link to the primary source beside every number. We do not publish opinion here.

They exist because we needed them. Before we put a model into someone's business we have to know where the request gets processed, what the vendor has committed to, and what Australian law says about it. Writing the answer down once costs us an afternoon and saves you a fortnight.

Each page ends with a section headed "what we could not confirm". It lists the things we went looking for and did not find, or found only in a secondary source. That section is usually the useful part, because it tells you which questions to put to a vendor in writing.

Once a month we re-read every source on every page and update the date at the top. When a fact has changed, we change the page and say what changed. When nothing has changed, the date still moves, so you can tell the difference between current and forgotten.

If the date at the top of a page is old, the page is old. Treat it accordingly and check the source yourself. This matters most on the model residency page. Which models can run inside an Australian region changes with almost every release, which is why that page is a table and every row carries its own source link.
