The standard we aim for

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2, Level AA. w3.org ↗ That is the level the Australian Government expects of its own sites, and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 applies to services offered online. humanrights.gov.au ↗

What we have done

Each of these is true of this site today.

• Real headings in order, real lists, real tables with row and column headers. A screen reader can move through the page by structure.
• A skip link as the first thing you reach with the keyboard, so you can jump past the navigation.
• Every interactive element is reachable and operable with a keyboard, and shows a clear focus outline. We have not removed focus styling anywhere.
• Colour contrast checked by calculation rather than by eye. Body text runs from 4.5:1 to 16.3:1 against the surface behind it, at or above the 4.5:1 requirement. Button borders sit between 3.1:1 and 3.4:1 depending on the background, above the 3:1 requirement for interface components.
• Navigation links, buttons and other standalone controls are at least 44 pixels high. WCAG 2.2 Level AA asks for 24 by 24. We use the larger figure because people read on phones outdoors, in gloves, and on cracked screens. Links inside a sentence are exempt under the standard and are left at the size of the text around them.
• Text resizes to 200% and reflows to a 320 pixel viewport without content being cut off or needing horizontal scrolling. Wide tables scroll inside their own container rather than pushing the page sideways.
• Animation is minimal, and what little there is respects the reduced motion setting in your operating system. Nothing moves, flashes or plays on its own.
• No information is carried by colour alone. Decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers instead of being announced as meaningless images.
• Pages are plain HTML and work without JavaScript, apart from the mobile menu toggle.

What we have not done

This statement is our own assessment. No independent accessibility audit has been carried out, and we have not tested with every combination of screen reader and browser. We have not had the site reviewed by people with disability, which is the test that actually matters and which we intend to arrange.

Saying so is more useful to you than a confident claim we cannot back. If you need formal conformance evidence for a procurement process, ask us and we will tell you honestly where we are up to.

It helps if you can tell us which page, what you were trying to do, and what you use to browse, such as a screen reader, magnification or keyboard only. Any detail is better than none. We will acknowledge within two business days and give you a realistic date for the fix rather than an optimistic one.

If we cannot fix something quickly, we will offer another way to get the same information or complete the same task, usually by phone or email.
